How to Setup PayPal Payments Standard in OpenCart 3.x

OpenCart is a powerful and user-friendly open-source e-commerce platform that allows merchants to create online stores quickly and efficiently. One of the key aspects of running an online business is having a seamless and secure payment process. PayPal, being a widely used and trusted payment gateway, is often integrated into e-commerce platforms like OpenCart. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of setting up PayPal Payments Standard in OpenCart 3.x.

Step 1: Install and Configure OpenCart

Make sure you have OpenCart 3.x installed on your server. If not, download the latest version from the official OpenCart website and follow the installation instructions.

 

Step 2: Enable PayPal Payments Standard

In the OpenCart admin panel, go to Extensions > Payments. Find "PayPal Payments Standard" in the list and click the "Install" button. 

 

Step 3: Configure settings

Once installed, click the "Edit" button to configure the settings.

Follow the settings below

  • Enter your PayPal email address
  • Select the Sandbox Mode (You can choose Yes testing transactions without actual money changing hands)
  • Select the transaction method: Choose either "Sale" or "Authorization" based on your preference for processing transactions immediately or authorizing them for later capture. (you can choose "Sale" for immediate payments)

 

Follow and configure order status below. Save the changes.

 

Step 4: Test the Integration

Before making the payment gateway live, it's advisable to test the integration.

  1. Enable the "Sandbox" option in the PayPal Payments Standard settings.

  2. Perform a test transaction using the provided sandbox buyer and seller accounts.

  3. Verify that the order status is updated correctly in your OpenCart store.

 

Step 5: Go Live

Once you've successfully tested the integration, disable the "Sandbox" option in the PayPal Payments Standard settings to make the payment gateway live.

Congratulations! You have now successfully set up PayPal Payments Standard in OpenCart 3.x. Your customers can securely make payments through PayPal, enhancing the overall shopping experience on your e-commerce store.
